Founder + Inventor of Equipt Movement, Kodi Berg!

I admire people take ordinary, everyday things and reinvent the solution to take on an entire new identity. Kodi Berg did just that when she reinvented (and patented!) the boring hand weight into what is now called the Ubarre- a chic, contemporary sculpture that when not in use- looks like a work of art!

Kodi’s purpose is to inspire movement whether it’s in your home, the office, or even at hotels (Yup, you can find her Ubarre in a hotel room!)

It’s a pretty genius product so you can definitely learn a thing or two from our latest interview…

“Come back to the core of your why. Mine is inspiring movement. So I keep reminding myself how I can do this.”

Question:

Lindsay Albanese: What is one interesting thing that people may not know about your career?

Kodi Berg!: Before launching Equipt I was Dr Maggie in General Hospital. That ended and it forced me to reevaluate what I wanted, which is a lifestyle of movement.

Question:

Lindsay Albanese: During your professional journey, what is one mistake you made that you learned the most from?

Kodi Berg!: Only one mistake?! A gazillion. As the company is growing I would’ve hired even help for a few hours a week earlier in specialties that people have. Wholesale partnerships are huge. The setup to make this happen and ongoing support required is intense. There are people who specialize, don’t be afraid to hire out for these roles and give yourself time to do what is needed of you but also what you excel at.

Question:

Lindsay Albanese: What are you most proud of at this moment?

Kodi Berg!: I’m a mother To a 5 year old, 14 and 17 year old. I made it through the supply chain issues as an incredibly small company (under statement!) without childcare during the pandemic and I’m still here. I always laugh that my country grit won’t let me quit.

Question:

Lindsay Albanese: One thing you wish people would stop doing in business?

Kodi Berg!: The 80/20 rule….if you’ve waited til perfection you’ve waited too long. Overcome the fear. Launch it. Post it. Choose it.

Oftentimes we stop for fear of others, of outside opinions. Come back to yourself and remind of the why. I strive to inspire movement. That reminder brings me back to the reason for doing anything and can take you away from the perfectionism that can cause paralysis.

Just simply take the step and choose it.

Question:

Lindsay Albanese: Your go-to beverage after a long week (specifics please!)?

Kodi Berg!: Mujen Gimlet! My dear friend Sondra just launched a delicious drink brand. No carbs. No sugar. I shake it with mint and lime and pour over ice. So refreshing!
