"How Did They Do It?" With Influencer & Founder of The Bright Side, Rocky Barnes!

I've had the pleasure of knowing Rocky for quite some time now (through the influencer world) and when we first met I was impressed by her approachability. She's a model, influencer, mother and most recently, added Founder of her unisex apparel brand, The Bright Side, to her resume. Side note- her brand gets 5 stars from me! I am a personal fan and have worn MANY of her pieces in my social posts. In this feature, Rocky shares common misconceptions about what it's like to be an influencer as well as business advice and more...

LA: What is one interesting thing that people may not know about your career?

R: I think a lot of people assume influencers take one photo a day and then just chill. I don’t think people know how much work there is behind the scenes. I also work with a very small team. Literally just my husband Matt and our one team member, Cara! I am involved in every aspect of my business. I post every photo, read all the captions and post every story!

LA: During your professional journey, what is one mistake you made that you learned the most from?

R: I learned early on to always have a contract. No matter how friendly your relationship is with the person/brand, a contract always helps eliminate potential confusion and issues during a job!

LA: What are you most proud of at this moment?

R: At the moment I am most proud of our house remodel. Matt and I worked so hard the past couple years, buying our first house, and overseeing every aspect of the remodel. We made our dream house and I’m so happy with how it turned out!  Excited to share more of it soon!

Also very excited to be celebrating one year of The Bright Side! We launched mid pandemic and it has been a labor of love. We have a really fun new collection coming for spring/summer, going to be perfect for finally being able to explore and travel again.

LA: One thing you wish people would stop doing in business?

R: I wish brand would stop micromanaging, and allow content creators to do what they do best! I also hate when brands ask you to do free work for the opportunity to work with them in the future. No one should ever be asked to work for free!

LA: Your go-to beverage after a long week (specifics please!)

R: Tequila anything!
