"How Did They Do It?" With Founder and Designer, Anine Bing!
I have been an admirer and customer of Anine Bing for many years so I was THRILLED when we were both on a Fashion industry panel for Create and Cultivate last year. It's always a humbling, pinch me moment when I'm sitting alongside accomplished industry leaders like herself. Read on to learn how she did it.....
LA: What is one interesting thing that people may not know about your career?
A: I actually used to be in a band called Kill Your Darlings.. It was such a special time in my life. Music has always inspired me so much, and it was such a joy to have that as a creative outlet. Music continues to inspire my collections. ANINE BING is definitely rooted with a rock n' roll edge.
LA: During your professional journey, what is one mistake you made that you learned the most from?
A: Not hiring the right people in the right departments.. In the beginning, we were trying to scale the business and a few times we hired people too quickly. Now we're really selective about who we hire, and it's truly paying off. I say this all the time but I have the best team!
LA: What is one thing you did that put you on the right path to be successful in this career?
A: My work ethic.. I've always worked hard, but starting your own company is another story. In the beginning it was exciting to sort of do it all, I wore so many hats and learned so much about how a company functions. That really set me on the right path to appreciate every member of the team.
LA: What are you most proud of at this moment?
A: I am SO proud of my team who have been working from home for the last 9 months. I never thought we would survive one month, so really proud of their hard work and creative ways of continuing the business.. We just launched ANINE BING Sport, which I'm really proud of.. It's something I've wanted to do for a while.. Now that we're all spending more time indoors, it felt like the right time to drop! I wanted to create a new category that women could wear to look and feel polished but still be comfortable.. This collection provides an effortlessly styled everyday look.
LA: Your go-to beverage after a long week (specifics please!)?
A: A skinny-spicy margarita, with Casamigos!
