'How Did They Do It?' With Designer and Founder of L*Space Swimwear, Monica Wise!

LA: What is one interesting thing that people may not know about your career?


M: Back when I started, I didn’t have the budget to hire models for trade shows so I had to model and show the collection at the same time! Thank goodness that didn’t last too long! 


LA: During your professional journey, what is one mistake you made that you learned the most from?  


M: In the earlier years, I loved designing skimpy bottoms and didn’t offer a lot of coverage options. Once I really started listening to what our customers wanted, we exploded. If you don't listen to your customers someone else will!


LA: What is one thing you did that put you on the right path to growing a successful brand? 


M: I never took my eye off the quality from day one! You have nothing if you don’t have a great quality product. 20+ years later and customers still rave about how our quality outlasts the competition. 


LA: What are you most proud of at this moment?


M: I am most proud of the community we’ve built through the years as a brand for all shapes, colors and sizes. Our fans have really embraced us and the meaning of L*Space. 


LA: Your go-to beverage after a long week (specifics please!)?  


M: I love a “Rosemary Greyhound” these days! It’s both sweet and savory, and the best part is it’s only 3 ingredients: vodka, rosemary simple syrup and of course, a sprig of fresh Rosemary!
