'How Did They Do It?' With Co-Founders of BumoWork, Chriselle Lim + Joan Nguyen!
I met Chriselle and Joan officially only about a month ago and it was instant, constant conversation about everything- life, family, Tiktok, building a business, you name it! I've admired Chriselle's work for many years so it was great to finally connect. Chriselles' newest venture, Bumo, was brought to life with Co-Founder Joan Nguyen. They both took their backgrounds in fashion, education and business and created Bumo, a co-working space for parents along with education-based childcare all under one roof! Let's hear how they did it...
LA: What is one interesting thing that people may not know about your career?
C: I am a horrible operator and that is why I have business partners in each of my businesses. Both of my business partners in my different companies are AMAZING operators and executors which allows me to focus on my strengths which is content, creativity, and the ideation part.
J: I started my first company at 20 years old with just $3,000 and my only other job before that was as a Starbucks barista!
LA: During your professional journey, what is one mistake you made that you learned the most from?
C: Taking too much on. We all like to believe that we have superpowers but at the end of the day we only have 24 hours, and if you add too much to your plate... Something will have to give! It is impossible to give 100% of your time to every single thing. I had to learn how to say NO the hard way!
J: Being a work-hoarding, under-delegating maniac. There is one quote that sums this up best: "Alone you can go fast. But with a team, you can go far."
LA: What are you most proud of at this moment?
C: Recognizing a problem after becoming a parent and creating a solution for it which is BumoWork. Being able to bring fully licensed education based childcare to the workplace so parents (especially mothers) can continue to thrive in their careers and stay in the workforce after they have kids. Launching BumoWork in the midst of a global pandemic and pivoting during the pandemic launched BumoBrain. Probably the scariest thing I've ever done, but when there is a need for something you know there will be demand.
J: I am proud of co-founding a solution for working parents: workspace and licensed childcare under one roof.
LA: One thing you wish people would stop doing in business?
C: Lauching something before beta testing their product or service. My co -founder and I had a number of beta test before launching BumoWork and even for our BumoBrain on demand content we are about to launch...we've been testing and surveying non stop!!
J: I wish people would stop making it so hard for workings moms to grow. I feel like there is no infrastructure in place to help working parents (especially moms) thrive. Many business claim they care about working mothers or support working parents, but they don't.
LA: Your go-to beverage after a long week (specifics please!)
C: A glass or Rosé! I love Avaline!
J: I only drink wine! A glass of Pinot Noir at night or Sauvignon Blanc in the day!
