'How Did They Do It?' With Co-Founders of LILI Media & Design Lab, Aliya and Aliza Sovani!
I had the pleasure of connecting with sisters and Co-Founders Aliya and Aliza Sovani, of LILI Media & Design Lab to talk about how they took their completely different career backgrounds and made an environmentally-focused creative agency out of it. With an already impressive clientele that includes working with Queen Elizabeth herself- you can definitely learn a thing or two from them. If you didn't already know, creative agencies are the driving force behind nearly every brands content, marketing strategies and arguably, overall success - because you need a good story teller to tell (and sell!) your story. Let's here theirs....
LA: What is one interesting thing that people may not know about your career?
A + A: We started off independently having both come from two completely different career paths: Aliya is a veteran Journalist, TV Host and Producer and Aliza is a Landscape Architect & Urban Designer. A few years ago we noticed that the topics of our work actually began to overlap which was really just serendipitous of the challenges the earth finds itself facing right now in terms of climate change and climate justice.
LA: During your professional journey, what is one mistake you made that you learned the most from?
A + A: In different ways, both of us have experienced the negative health implications of neglecting a proper work/life balance. Beyond health, we have learned that without balance our creativity ultimately suffers too. This is a huge reason why we started this creative agency.
LA: What are you most proud of at this moment?
A + A: We have built our company based on a foundation of these strong values to do with inclusivity, environmental and social responsibility and we are proud to have had the opportunity to collaborate on projects with high-level clients that are in line with our core values including The National Wildlife Federation and The Government of Canada. Any fan of the show ' The Crown' would agree that signing a contract with Queen Elizabeth is definitely a career highlight for the two of us.
LA: I wish people would stop doing this in business...
A + A: Zoom meetings! Can we start in-person meetings again please?
LA: The place I find inspiration is....
Aliya: Ocean walks at the end of my street in Santa Monica, California.
Aliza: Amongst friends on a cafe terrace near my home in Toulouse, France.
